The world of comic books is as alive and kicking as it has ever been. With the work that Marvel has been doing in the cinematic realm, the once-niche genre of entertainment is reaching new heights. One of the most cornerstone, iconic, superhoes of all time is Spider Man and for some reason we just can’t get a good franchise out of him. So news that the franchise would be rebooted YET AGAIN, this time in cooperation with Marvel, should have been a good thing, right? There are some complications, though, primarily with casting.
Toby McGuire portrayed potentially the most popular iteration of the iconic character over 10 years ago. The films started off strong before dipping into cheese and silliness, ultimately ruining the strong start of the franchise. perhaps McGuire and co came on just a few years too early. In any event, Sony rebooted the picture with Andrew Garfield at the helm. Garfield was a little old for the role, but he was charming enough to make it work. Though fans liked his iteration, the films still found a way to flop at the box office.
Wikipedia users say that now we’re starting over once more (sorry Uncle Ben) and this time Spidey is going to be a youngster. Asa Butterfield (Enders Game) has been tagged as the frontrunner for the role and we couldn’t be more thrilled. While Garfield had the physicality and charisma, he never had the dorkiness that Peter Parker so defined> Asa could make for a terrific young Spidey.
