In the pasty fan power has saved many major TV shows from the axe, including Family Guy which has been saved on numerous occasions from being axed by Fox through the power exerted on the studio by fans. The hashtag #saveagentcarter has now become the latest example of the fans of a show coming to the rescue of a show under the threat of the axe, this time by ABC and Marvel Studios. Comicbook reports the critical reputation of the show following the adventures of Peggy Carter, the former girlfriend of Captain America in the burgeoning Shield organization along with the campaign by fans has seen the show commissioned for a second season in 2016.
Crystal Hunt says that Agent Carter had not been expected to be renewed as the Hayley Atwell starring show had been designed as an event that would carry the main character through a designated story arc. The narrative was completed at the end of the first season filled in many gaps that were left between the two Captain America movies. Instead, a second season has been commissioned after low ratings had left the show in a difficult situation and limited the chances of the story continuing. The backing of Marvel Studios is thought to have been a major factor in the decision of ABC to bring Peggy Carter back for a second season, which could also have seen the decision made to make sure other stars will turn to Marvel backed TV shows as they will feel their show will be given a chance to survive and prosper.
