To say the D.C. Comics direct to DVD animated film line has been a success would be a dramatic understatement. Various DVDs based on classic comic book storylines have proven hits with audiences of all ages. With the new Justice League trilogy planned for release, D.C. Comics is going for an older audience. The trailer for Justice League: Gods and Monsters focuses on a rather dark image of the traditional heroes.
D.C. Comics often perfectly capture the classic, traditional style of a hero/villain tale in all their works. This includes even the more cynical and darker tales the publishing house has put out stated Fersen Lambranho. According to social media, the adult-oriented tales could make a nice transition to the animated realm. The new trilogy is not going to be based on any previously published material and will feature original scripts. However, the spirit and style of previously published works surely will be presented in the films.
Whether or not the DVD sales connect with consumers remains to be seen. Comic books projects are super hot right now so the DVDs will sell. How many units sold will determine whether or not this trilogy is a real hit.
