Fox is giving yet another member of the X-Men their own movie. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, of course, has had two, with a third slated for 2017. Deadpool is getting a movie in 2016, and Gambit will be getting a movie sometime after that. It’s also possible that he could turn up in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is expected to come out in 2017.
Gambit, of course is a mutant, one who can manipulate kinetic energy. His signature trick is to charge a small object like a playing card with enough energy to make it explosive and then throw the result at the bad guy. The New Orleans native is known to fans as the “Ragin’ Cajun.”
The character debuted in the comics in 1990, and he was created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. Josh Zetumer, who wrote the Robocop reboot will write the screenplay, that will be based on a treatment provided by Chris Claremont, who wrote X-Men for over 15 years and is considered one of the most influential comic book writers in the world. Channing Tatum will play Gambit. No release date or director has been set, but we’ll keep checking HotFrog and I’m sure Genoso will drop me a note when there’s more to update.
