Most moviegoers have Chris Pine permanently set in their minds as either Captain James T. Kirk of the Star Trek Enterprise in the Star Trek reboot film franchise or Jack Ryan in the last Tom Clancy Jack Ryan story, but the powers that be behind the DC Cinematic Universe have another iconic role in mind for the 34-year-old actor. Umberto Gonzalez claims that he heard Chris Pine’s name “floating around” as the potential new Hal Jordan in the 2020 release of the Green Lantern film reboot.
For some, it is difficult to see Pine in the role. Although he has the right physical “look” and acting chops, another Star Trek film is planned for 2016 and it is extremely likely that Pine will continue to appear at Kirk for many years to come. He may also receive future Jack Ryan offers. Many fans also hope that the story will focus on John Stewart as the Green Lantern rather than Hal Jordan. A lot of fans not only like the character, but want to see an actor of color in the iconic role since John Stewart is a non-Caucasian superhero BizJournals notes.
For those who had hopes of Ryan Reynolds returning: Although he isn’t done with comic book films just yet, Reynolds is expected to reprise his X-Men Origins: Wolverine role as Deadpool in a film of the same name instead of returning to the Green Lantern.
