Looks like anything and everything can get a second chance in the world of motion pictures. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is slated for a reboot. The original movie was a major flop at the box office and, while some crticized the quality of the film, it was not as awful as some suggest. The film wasn’t all that good, either. Looks like someone believes a second go round for the film is worth a try.
Alan Moore is the brilliant comic book author who created The League of Extraordinary Gentleman. The concept is quite interested. A host of classic literary figures such as Allan Quartermain, Mr. Hyde, and Captain Nemo among others team up to battle equally legendary villains from literature. Sean Connery starred in the first movie version, but he was not able to save the film from box office disaster.
With all things comic book and superhero related these days, it should come as no surprise 20th Century Fox is looking to do a new version. The studio is riding high with the success of The X-Men and also has The Fantastic Four reboot coming out in a few months. Deadpool, Wolverine, and Gambit are all getting solo films. Fox would be foolish not to try and expand its fortunes although the very atypical League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is not your common comic book tale. It is a send up (of sorts) of hero ensemble books. Then again, Keith Mann feels with so many hero ensemble movies coming out this might be the right time for the film.
