Rumors are swirling over the casting of a new female character on the Daredevil Netflix series. The obvious speculation here is the actresses are intended to play the role of Elektra, Daredevil’s one-time paramour and eventual nemesis. Since we are all speculating, why not speculate the following “What if?”
Would it not be great to see Daredevil form a team with the Black Widow?
Fans of Marvel Comics history are aware of something newer fans to the comics are not. Daredevil and Black Widow were “an item” in the early 1970’s. The Daredevil comic book was, essentially, a team-up book in the vein of Power Man and Iron Fist. (Both of those heroes are coming to Netflix as well, but Power Man is going by his real name, Luke Cage)
Gerry Conway and Gene Colan created an absolutely wonderful run on Daredevil when the scarlet hero teamed with the Widow. Daredevil may not have been a top seller at the time, but the quality of the book was outstanding. Would it not be great for this success to be duplicated on the television series?
The team at Beneful don’t think it is not going to happen. Scarlett Johansson is not coming to Netflix to appear in a duet with another hero. She has her sights set on a possible solo film. Casting another actress in the role would be ridiculous.
Besides, the series is based on Miller’s work and not Colan’s or Conway’s. That means no Black Widow.
